Sailboats caught my fancy, so I made these tags. I used vintage linen and ticking, and white 3D paper.

I'll list them in my Etsy shop later today.

 Back to work!

I enjoy making these tags. They're versatile in their uses, and they also fit the occasion.

So... it's time for Christmas trees. And a sailboat.
This set of 6 tags are now in my Etsy shop.

My cataract surgery went very well. I spent 2.5 hours at the hospital and the procedure took 15 minutes. Healing is faster than was predicted.

In 10 days, I'll be going in for the other eye. And then it will all be over. Feeling grateful for the very good care from both the eye clinic and the hospital, and my provincial healthcare program.

 Thank you for stopping by!

Sneak peek

I have an article in the Winter issue (published in December) of Sew Somerset.

I compose my own titles, and usually they come fast, but this one took some time. I had hoped the editors would like it, and they did.

 Cheers!

Time really does fly. I haven't blogged for a month, which is a long time for me.

I've been tending to my "garden" (life), and will be having some surgery later this month, one of those in-and-out routine procedures that will make my daily life easier.

Meanwhile, I have been working and tending to my little shop, although I had to abandon the daily painting. For now.

Thank you for stopping by.

It's been a busy week, filled with ordinary things, chores, dog-walking and the like.

Then, after 12 years or so of trouble-free service, my trusty sewing machine had to go to the shop to get fixed and, naturally, once it was gone I wanted to sew. Isn't that always the way?

So it was back to painting.

These are two of my paintings this week.

I usually paint directly onto the canvas or paper, but it this case, I did a quick sketch as a guide.

Then I taped down a sheet of canvas paper. But instead of continuing, I finished this painting. I thought I was being orderly - finish one before beginning another.

So I went back to the sketch and painted away... until I removed the masking tape only to discover that because it had been sitting around for a couple of days, the masking tape had set into the paper and stripped away some of the canvas paper at the top and the bottom, taking away some of the paint. It looked bad and there was no cure. So....

I trimmed the sides.

Needless to say, I won't be making that mistake again.

Daily painting creation

A very old, rescued, book cover, the size of a notebook.
A vintage photograph.
Old lace and red velvet.
Some embroidery on an antique piece of linen...

It was back to faces over the weekend.
And watercolours.
Truth be told, it was procrastination from doing other things....

An old painting gets a do-over.

I recycle paintings that I don't like anymore. I use rubbing alcohol to remove most of the acrylic paint, then begin again.

A big brush and lots of black, then a warm yellow in the spaces left.

An enso in pale pink, reinforced with black.

I've been working on this painting for the last couple of days. I made some deliberate marks on the canvas, and after that I got out of my own way and let things happen. I don't worry about doing this because I can paint over anything I don't like, something that happened a few times with this painting.

I'm calling my daily paintings "daily artworks".  It would be more accurate...
This is today's offering, a pair of ATCs (artist trading cards),
and a brand-new listing in my Etsy shop.

It seems EtsyMini (which used to showcase my shop in the sidebar) has been abolished by the Etsy powers that be. I've replaced it with a link.

So I'll just put this new listing here: https://www.etsy.com/ca/listing/540480503/potted-plant-original-painting-acrylic

Feel free to use the discount coupon applicable to everything in the shop: enter SPECIAL2 when checking out to get 15% off.

Daily paintings.

This was a painting done over several days. It's the first portrait I've painted of a real live person. I'm not showing the finished version because I want it to be a surprise.

Yesterday's daily painting... after days of painting the portrait, portraits being very complicated, I went for something simple. There are probably 101 versions of this potted plant; this is mine.

Daily painting.

Abstract on cardboard.

Before I began painting, I applied a layer of heavy gel medium to the cardboard to smoothen it, and left it to dry.

It's no secret that I like to work with cardboard....

But I've never used it for direct painting until today.

I applied several layers of paint, letting each layer dry completely.

Here I painted wet on wet. I used a palette knife and the texture of the cardboard came through, creating a nice effect.

I like to cut up and rearrange some of my pieces. I find that they take on a completely new meaning and a new look that I like much better than the original.

This piece was trimmed and mounted on cardboard. It's a small piece but it packs a much bigger punch than the original painting.

Textile Friday.

I've made many little quilts over the years that I'm bringing out of hibernation. I've combined fabrics with vintage photos, paper, lace, tiny objects.
Priced to sell, they are all available for purchase and will be going into my Etsy shop in the very near future. Meanwhile, they are available directly from me.
